A 59-year-old man was jailed today on suspicion of strangling a La Jolla man for financial gain.
Kent Thomas Keigwin faces fraud and murder charges in connection with the June 8 death of John Watson, said Lt. Ernie Herbert of the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
Watson, a retired biotech executive and board member of the San Diego Tech Coast Angels, was found dead inside his Camino Del Oro apartment around 6:20 p.m. June 8. Homicide investigators learned Watson’s identity was recently stolen and $7.5 million had been transferred from one of his investment accounts, Herbert said.
During the early morning hours of June 11, while homicide detectives were investigating the death, Keigwin appeared at the victim’s apartment unexpectedly and was arrested on suspicion of financial crimes, Herbert said.
The suspect was subsequently booked into county jail in lieu of $2.5 million
Today, police announced that the District Attorney’s office also has charged Keigwin with murder.
