The La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club will host a fundraiser June 6 to benefit local and international charities. “Cheers for Charity” will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the La Jolla Marriott, 4240 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla.
The 19th annual event raises money for Rotary service projects in San Diego and around the world. The gala, “Sogno di Vino” (“Dreams of Wine”), will include wine tasting, micro beer sampling, live and silent auctions, food and entertainment. The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $75. Call (619) 338-1437 for information.
On an international level, proceeds from Cheers for Charity will benefit Rotary’s Jalalabad School in Afghanistan, built in 2004 and now serving 3,000 boys and 1,500 girls. In continuing its support of education in Afghanistan, La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary is also funding Internet connectivity in local high schools and salaries for female teachers. One of the club’s latest goals is to build a bridge over the Kabul River, so more children will have access to the school.
Among the local charities benefiting from Cheers for Charity are: Children’s Hospital, Upward Bound and Robotics programs at the University of San Diego, the Camp Pendleton Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Thrift Shop, Rebuilding Together and Voices4Children. Funds raised from the event also provide support for Salk Institute educational programs and the Monarch School.
