LJHS spirit blasts off Friday
Friday marks La Jolla High’s first home game of the season as well as “Spirit Night.”
As part of the annual “Blast Off” back-to-school fundraising celebration, members of each class wear their colors and try to outshine each other to be deemed the most spirited.
“Students are very creative in their face painting, T-shirt designs and signs as they join with their classmates to compete for the award,” said Gabrielle Goodman, a former Blast Off co-chair. “Being the first home event of the season, it helps unite students giving them something to look forward to, especially watching the Vikings play.”
Principal Dana Shelburne presents a $100 award at halftime of the varsity football game to the class racking up the most points in the spirit competition.
The Vikings take on San Diego High with the JV game at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
Refreshments will include Mexican food, barbecued sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos, ice cream, snacks, water and soda.
Proceeds benefit the PTA.
