Student volunteers from La Jolla High School’s Interact Club — a program sponsored by La Jolla Rotary Club — spent the weekend of Dec. 13-14 collecting food at local grocery stores for charity. As patrons entered the store, Interact volunteers offered them two options for participation. Shoppers could buy from a list of desired non-perishable food items or they could purchase a “Turkey Ticket” for $10. The collected food was donated to the Community Resource Center’s “Holiday Baskets” program, which provides holiday food, gifts and clothing to more than 1,500 needy San Diego families. Combined with donations from La Jolla Rotary Club, more than 9,000 pounds of food was collected.
