Literacy focus of lecture
Professor Seth Lerer, dean of Arts and Humanities, and distinguished professor of literature at UCSD, will discuss “Literacy and the Child’s Imagination” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5.
He will be The Bronowski Art&Science Forum presenter at the Auditorium at The Burnham Institute for Medical Research, 10905 Road to the Cure.
The lecture will address the ways in which childhood (especially in the West) has centered on instruction in the arts of reading: understanding the book as a world, but also understanding the world as a book.
The Bronowski Art&Science Forum is a venue addressing concerns of Jacob Bronowski as he examined the commonalities of art and of science: creativity, elegance and the sublime.
The forum is free. Go to www.bronowskiforum.org.
