Nicole Reino has been named to the newly created position of Lifestyles editor, announced Phyllis Pfeiffer, publisher of the La Jolla Light. In that role she will coordinate coverage of arts, music, trends, fashion, dining, entertainment and all other news content related to lifestyles. Reino will also coordinate lifestyles coverage in the Light’s sister papers: the Del Mar Times, the Rancho Santa Fe Record, the Carmel Valley Leader and the Solana Beach Sun.

“Because we serve an educated and sophisticated body of readers, we want to expand and deepen our coverage of lifestyles and the arts,” said Executive Editor Cyril Jones-Kellett. “We think Nicole brings an energy, creativity and professionalism that readers will appreciate.”

Reino will also be writing the Social Life column, taking over duties from long-time society reporter Eilene Sondak. “The Light is grateful for the years of society coverage provided by Eilene,” Jones-Kellett said. “ We wish her the very best in her new endeavors.”

Invitations to upcoming events should be addressed to Nicole Reino at the La Jolla Light, 565 Pearl Street, La Jolla, CA 92037.

A graduate of San Diego State University, Reino began her journalism career in television broadcasting. She worked for the NBC affiliate in Palm Desert, Calif., where she produced the morning and midday newscasts. In 2003, Reino moved back to San Diego and became a business writer for The San Diego Union-Tribune.

For two years, she covered small businesses in North County. In 2005, Reino transitioned into feature writing and took on the role of wedding writer at the Union-Tribune. For the past three years, she wrote a Sunday column called “Wedding Portrait,” which profiled the weddings of local couples. In addition, she wrote film reviews, restaurant profiles and a weekly fashion column for Street, a lifestyle and pop culture blog run by the Union-Tribune.

Reino lives in Kearny Mesa with her husband Andrew Kalomiris, who works for Senomyx, Inc., a research and development company.
