Letter carriers collecting food

La Jolla letter carriers on Saturday will collect food for the 18th annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive, Stamp Out Hunger! Donations will go to local charities, including Feeding America San Diego.

La Jolla residents can help by leaving a sturdy bag containing nonperishable foods such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to their mailbox before the time of regular mail delivery. Food items should be in nonbreakable containers such as boxes and cans.

Residents who would prefer not to leave the food out or who have a post office box may take food donations to the local post office.

And if you think you’re likely to forget, the letter carriers have added a way to remind yourself: Text STAMP6 to 30305 to receive mobile reminders about the drive (standard rates apply).

For more information, ask your letter carrier, contact the post office, or go to www.helpstampouthunger.com or www.facebook.com/StampOutHunger, or follow the drive at
