Legoland attendance increased in 2009

Attendance at Legoland California Resort was up 6 percent last year despite the poor economy that hurt other theme parks, it was announced Friday.

The boost made it six years in a row that attendance has increased, according to Peter Ronchetti, the general manager of the park. The park does not release actual attendance figures.

According to Ronchetti, the credit for the park’s success goes to the SeaLife Aquarium, which attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors in 2009, its first full year of operations.

Ronchetti said 2010 should also see more visitors, because the 5.5-acre Legoland Water Park is scheduled to open in June. The water park, which will have a separate entrance, will be geared to children aged 2-12, along with their parents.
