Large Torrey pine falls, clipping La Jolla home

Following heavy rains and winds, a huge 50-plus year old tree got uprooted and toppled over into the yard of a historic, red-tile roofed Cliff May home at 6117 Avenida Cresta in Bird Rock about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The main body of the tree fell into the front yard and a couple of branches landed on the home’s roof, damaging it. A tree-trimming service was on the scene with chainsaws cutting the tree into pieces and hauling it away.

The owners could not be reached late in the afternoon.
