La Jolla Presbyterian Church is the oldest church in the community.(False) The Congregational Church of La Jolla was gathered in 1889, and incorporated by the state of California in 1897. It is the oldest congregation of any denomination in La Jolla. Its present building, completed in 1916, was designed by Carleton M. Winslow Sr. in the California mission style. The church bell, installed in 1959, was one of the original bells placed along El Camino Real (state Highway 101). It was purchased with funds raised by a drive spearheaded by the Sunday School children.
