■ Witness the La Jolla Cove Swim Club’s Polar Bear Plunge, where La Jolla Cove Swim Club members literally dive into the New Year, 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1 at La Jolla Shores near the lifeguard tower (look for the club banner). Cider and coffee provided, participants asked to bring their favorite chili, soup or other warm food.
