La Jollans compete in olympiad

Three La Jolla students who attend Francis Parker Middle and Upper Schools competed in the 2009 Regional Science Olympiad competition at Rancho Bernardo High School.

They were Zach Gleicher, seventh place in Elevated Bridge; David Larson, second in Egg-O-Naut and seventh in Disease Detectives; and Riley Manifold, second in Fossils and 14th in Physical Science Lab.

The Upper School team placed third among San Diego County’s 57 teams and will advance to the state competition in April. Upper school teacher Rose Hanscom has coached Parker teams since 1997.

The Parker Middle School team finished sixth out of 71 teams, earning a probable berth at the state competition. Parker alumna Christi Cole is the coach.
