La Jolla woman joins Oprah for some fun

By Doris Lee McCoy, Ph.D.

I was one of those who took Oprah Winfrey up on her invitation to her TV audience to join her in celebrating the 10-year anniversary of O magazine in New York City. Between 6,000 and 10,000 followed her to enjoy the festivities.

People came from all over the U.S. and as far away as New Zealand, Hong Kong, Germany, Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Greenland and many other places. We went to seminars with Oprah’s favorite guests such as Suze Orman, Dr. Oz and Nate Berkus. The magazine gave us generous gifts, a big decorated box filled with presents of T-shirts, scarves, a quote book, journal and a huge purse to hold them all.

The high point for many was Saturday night at Radio City Music Hall, where Oprah took the stage and told her life story. The weekend ended with the Sunday walk for 10 charities.
