La Jolla United Methodist Church to host Scout Sunday
La Jolla United Methodist Church at 6063 La Jolla Blvd. will celebrate Scout Sunday at 10 a.m. Jan. 31. The day has been set aside to recognize the contributions Scouting organizations make to the community and their churches.
All generations of Scout groups are invited to attend and wear their uniforms, badge sashes or any other mementos of Scouting activities.
The church sponsors Boy Scout Troop 506, which was founded 46 years ago and over the years has produced 56 Eagle Scouts. It currently consists of 40 youths and 16 registered adult leaders, led by Scoutmaster Clark Smith.
Recent Eagle projects have included creating a meditation garden at La Jolla Congregational Church; renovating the exterior of the Florence Riford Senior Center; improving areas of Crest Canyon, Balboa, Marian Bear and Torrey Pine parks; and completing numerous projects at La Jolla High, Pacific Beach Elementary and La Jolla Elementary Schools, the La Jolla United Methodist Church Pre-School and for the Audubon Society. The troop also sponsors an annual Christmas service project for the needy and helps out its home church every March after the annual rummage sale.
