La Jolla tennis camp gathers top coaches
Angela Horacek has been teaching tennis to junior players for 30 years, and this summer she says she has the best group of coaches surrounding her to teach and develop them.
That’s great news for local youth tennis players who want to gain skills on the court this summer. Angela’s Tennis Camps are in full swing again this week as well as next month at La Jolla Country Day School.
“We have 5- to 15-year-old ability levels,” Horacek said. “We have a coach for every age and level.”
If you’re a novice player, or a player looking to participate in tournaments, this year’s camp, has a coach who can help develop the skills needed for just about anything, she said.
Adding prestige to the camp are many qualified instructors, including Joslynn Burkett (former USTA player and CIF champ at LJCD), Roberto Martini (former ITF player), Mike Reisinger (20 years of coaching experience), Taiche Rudee (former SDSU player) and Jose Ruelas (former head coach at Bishop’s School).
Burkett, who not only coached the Torreys to a CIF title this year with the boys team, also was a product of the camp from the age of 6 all the way through her junior career.
“She had a quite a year for her first year (coaching LJCD varsity),” Horacek said. “We were really proud of her.”
The coaches are what make this camp standout, if you ask Horacek.
“Many camps of this caliber only have a high school or college-aged players teaching the camp,” she added.
This week’s camp started on Monday, but there are still three more weeks as the camp will have more three more sessions starting Monday, July 26.
There are only 36 spot available for each session, so space is limited.
