President, La Jolla Shores Association

At our next meeting on March 10, the La Jolla Shores Association needs to make its recommendations to the mayor’s office to fill two positions on the La Jolla Shores Advisory Board.

The board is vested with the responsibility of advising the city of San Diego on a plethora of important issues. The board’s recommendations on these issues will have long-term and far-reaching impacts on all of our lives here in the Shores. In order to fill the two positions, we will need to provide six names to our City Council representative, Sherri Lightner, for submission to the mayor. The mayor will then make his selection.

The qualifications for the seven members of the La Jolla Shores Advisory Board are as follows:

Five members shall be resident property owners of the La Jolla Shores Planned District. One member shall be resident of the district but need not own property. One member shall own property in the district but need not be a resident. Members shall be residents of the city of San Diego and shall be specifically qualified by reason of interest, training or experience in art, architecture, land development, landscape architecture, planning, urban design, or other relevant business or profession. At least one member of such board shall be a registered architect in the state of California. Each member is prohibited from engaging in any activity that could result in a conflict of interest and must make an annual statement of financial disclosure.

The importance of having trustworthy and dedicated volunteers representing the interests of the La Jolla Shores community cannot be overstated. For that reason, we must compile a strong list of potential candidates for the La Jolla Shores Advisory Board at the next Shores Association meeting. It will be held at 7 p.m. March 10 in Building T-29 of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

We hope that you will take some time to reflect upon whether you or someone you know might be a good candidate for the La Jolla Shores Advisory Board and then attend our next meeting with your suggestions.
