Erosion damage has caused La Jolla Shores boat launch to be closed indefinitely.

Lifeguard Sgt. James Gartland said the action was taken by the city Parks & Recreation Department on Monday. “It’s pretty severe damage, a 2- to 3-foot drop from the asphalt to the beach,” he said Thursday.

Gartland added the launch at the end of Avenida de la Playa was officially closed about 1 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday, they had had a K-rail put in place on the ramp to block vehicles from driving onto the eroded ramp.

“After the rains they’ll get some crews out to deal with it,” he added.

Erin Demorest in First District Councilwoman Lightner’s office said the Shores boat ramp is closed indefinitely adding Park and Rec will work with the city’s Street Division to repair the end of the street and get the ramp reopened as soon as possible.
