La Jolla runners’ showing strong

The La Jolla High School boys cross-country team was crowned Western League Co-Champions with Cathedral Catholic at the league finals on Nov. 13. With a third-place finish in the San Diego Sectional finals, the team qualified for the state meet in Fresno. LJHS team honors went to Michael Conroy, senior runner of the year; Alex Eve, junior of the year; and Daniel Farkas, freshman of the year. Conroy was also named Western League Male Runner of the Year.

The Torreys placed eighth out of 24 teams in the Division IV race at the CIF State Championship meet, the team’s best finish in history. Four Country Day runners placed in the top 100 individuals in a field of 200 — also a first for the Torreys — and all five scoring runners set personal records on the 3.1-mile course at Woodward Park.
