The La Jolla Presbyterian Chancel Choir and Soloists with Orchestra will perform three different settings of the hymn, “Te Deum,” on June 1.
The “Te Deum” is an early piece in music history and has been set to festive music for state celebrations, consecrations, ordinations and military victories.
The featured settings of the evening come from a variety of composers from the contemporary to the classical.
Mark Hays’ composition was written only four years ago and incorporates a myriad of styles, including pop and jazz.
Franz Joseph Hadyn, among Western music’s most influential composers, originally wrote his hymn of ‘Te Deum’ for the great Empress Marie Therese.
Finally, the evening will close with Anton Bruckner, an innovative composer from the Roman period.
Bruckner considered the composition he wrote of the ‘Te Deum’ to be his career’s greatest accomplishment.
Directing the Concert Series will be Dr. Keith Pederson, who is also Director of Choral Ministries at La Jolla Presbyterian Church.
Bettina Tate Pedersen, Mary Boles, Vincent Martin and Daniel Hall will sing as featured soloists for the Bruckner piece.
The La Jolla Presbyterian Church Concert Series is a community outreach of the Church Worship and Arts Ministry.
The concert is at 7 p.m. in the La Jolla Presbyterian Church sanctuary (7715 Draper Ave). For information visit
