La Jolla playwrights win top honors

This month, a new award-winning play by La Jolla playwrights Anita Simons and Lauren Simon was honored in Ohio. “Heartland” won the award for best play in the Dayton Playhouse FutureFest.

Based on true stories from World War II, “Heartland” is set on a small, family-run dairy farm in Wisconsin where a German-born widow and her children are struggling to make ends meet after the family patriarch has died.

“Heartland” will have its world premiere Nov. 13-23 at MiraCosta College in Oceanside.
