Last Saturday, patrons of the La Jolla Music Society attended SummerFest Gala 2008 at the La Jolla home of Maureen and Chad Carpenter.

The event, themed “A Night of Fantasy,” began with an outdoor champagne reception featuring tray-passed foie gras and tuna tartare as well as a caviar bar that donned an ice sculpture with the LJMS logo carved into the center. Then, guests filed into the house for a performance by violinists Cho-Liang Lin and David Chan, and pianists Jeewon Lee and Joyce Yang - all SummerFest musicians.

SummerFest is a month-long chamber music festival that includes more than 70 artists and ensembles performing 16 concerts through Aug. 24.

Dinner at last weekend’s event was made by Giuseppe Fine Catering and included blue crab gazpacho, beef tenderloin and live auction dessert stations. Vanilla panna cotta, mini carrot cakes and limoncello shooters among many other desserts were offered.

Following dinner, the Mario Olivares Band performed Latin jazz while guests danced into the night.

The proceeds from the event benefit education, outreach and artistic programs of the La Jolla Music Society.

Among the evening’s attendees: Laleh Roudi, SummerFest Gala chair; Terri Bourne, SummerFest chair; Christopher Beach, La Jolla Music Society president and artistic director; Maureen and Chad Carpenter, hosts; Dick and Barbara Enberg, honorary gala chairs; Jeanne Jones and Don Breitenberg, honorary committee members; Ellen Revelle, sponsor; Carolyn Revelle; Patsy and David Marino; Haeyoung and Kevin Tang; Rita and Jon Belmonte; Juliette Miller; Debby Jacobs; Joan and John Hotchkis; and Angel and Fred Kleinbub.
