The La Jolla Music Society’s WinterFest 2008 event, held at the Birch North Park Theater recently, was dubbed “Hi Jinx - Dare to Leap.” The gala promised “a daring evening of mischievous merriment,” and it certainly lived up to expectations.
The event started with cocktails and an elegant dinner catered by Pamplemousse Grille - which in itself would constitute a great evening. But the piece de resistance was a dazzling performance by the highly-acclaimed Hubbard Street Dance troupe. The festivities didn’t end there. A post-performance dessert reception gave the jubilliant crowd the rare opportunity to mingle with the performers back in the tented ballroom adjacent to the theater.
Fiona Tudor and Mary Drake co-chaired the glamorous evening. Joan and Irwin Jacobs were major underwriters of the event, and a large local contingency were among the delighted guests. Don Breitenberg and Jeanne Jones, Erika and Fred Torri, Harry and Valerie Cooper, Jay and Lael Kovtun, Murray and Patty Rome, Suzanne Figi, Elaine and Murray Galinson, Katherine Kennedy and Robert Horsman, and Peter Farrell were just a few of the revelers attending the successful fundraiser. Bully for the La Jolla Music Society for importing the world-class Hubbard Street Dance troupe from Chicago and making it part of a memorable evening. More photos on page B11.
