La Jolla merchants hosting Halloween event in Village

For the second straight year, Cups at 7857 Girard Ave. and other participating merchants on that street are hosting “Pillage the Village,” trick or treating for Halloween on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m.

“We’re trying to get more people in the Village, more foot traffic,” said Jonna Griggs, marketing manager for Cups organic cupcake/coffeehouse. “We want local stores on Girard to reach out, participate by passing out candy to people especially kids dressed up.”

Griggs said Cups started the new tradition last year even before it had officially opened. This year Cups will be handing out chocolate treats. As of Thursday, she said, she didn’t know who else was participating.
