La Jolla man identified; dies after diving from tour boat
A man who apparently drowned after he and some friends jumped off a cruise boat in Mission Bay early Sunday was identified Tuesday as a 28-year-old La Jolla resident.
Sean Rae and his friends dove off the Bahia Belle tour boat around 12:35 a.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office and city lifeguards.
Rae was unmarried and lived with his girlfriend in La Jolla, the medical examiner’s office reported. Some reports indicate he lived in the Windansea neighborhood.
Rae’s body was found at 3:10 p.m. Sunday near Bahia Point, about 100 yards from shore, Lifeguard Andy Lerum said.
Dive teams from the San Diego Police Department and Port of San Diego joined the search, along with a U.S. Coast Guard vessel, and lifeguards from the North County were called in to help, Lerum said.
