La Jolla man dies after diving off Bahia Belle
The body of a La Jolla man who dove off a tour boat with two friends and disappeared was recovered Sunday afternoon in Mission Bay, a
San Diego lifeguard lieutenant said.
The young man, who reportedly lived at Windansea, and his friends jumped off the Bahia Belle tour boat around 12:35 a.m., Lt. Andy Lerum said.
His body was discovered at 3:10 p.m. near Bahia Point, about 100 yards
from shore, and was pulled from the water shortly before 5 p.m., he said.
Dive teams from the San Diego Police Department and Port of San Diego
joined the search, along with a U.S. Coast Guard vessel, and lifeguards from the North County were called in to help, Lerum said.
The Bahia Belle is a mock-paddlewheel restaurant-bar cruise boat, based
at the Bahia Resort, that regularly cruises Mission Bay.
