La Jolla high synchronized ice skaters bring home gold
Two La Jolla High School students, sophomore Skylar Economy and junior Alice Schukin and their teammates on Team Del Sol came captured gold medals on Thursday afternoon at the 2010 National Synchronized Figure Skating Championship.
The team took the intermediate division title in the competition held in Minneapolis, Minn., earning 55.16 points. This is only the second-ever gold medal earned by a team representing the San Diego Figure Skating Club, according to a press release posted at icenetwork.com.
“The team, which skated to “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder and “Ramalama (Bang Bang)” by Roisin Murphy, skated with a focus on presentation and performance,” the release stated.
Karen Wiesemeier is their head coach.
