La Jolla High School to host career fair
About 30 businesses will be represented at the La Jolla High School Career Fair on April 15.
School counselor Beth Behnke is overseeing the event, which has been organized with the help of BreaRose Smith, secretary of the school’s Associated Student Body, and Jerrah McGeorge, a counseling intern.
“It’s been an idea of the counseling department and students who have been very passionate about it,” McGeorge said. Students can participate during their third and fourth hours of class as well as at lunch.
“It’s for students to get an idea of what professions there are,” she added. “We tried to get local professionals who’ve been successful in their particular fields to talk to students who want to experience their career path, find out what educational background they have to have, what it takes to do what they do.”
The career fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the school’s auditorium at 750 Nautilus St.
Local business people will be there to discuss career opportunities and have visual aids, pamphlets and other items for students to peruse.
Participating vendors will include French Gourmet, La Jolla Playhouse, SeaWorld, La Jolla Children’s Clinic, Tap Fever Studios, Lululemon, Athletica, Walden Partners USA, the La Jolla Light, a TV reporter, a radio station disc jockey, Yo Naturals, Dr. Jennifer Still, a professional photographer, Ironstone Bank, a pharmacist, a librarian, the former chief financial officer of Ronald McDonald House, the U.S. Army, a law student from Thomas Jefferson Law School and a representative from Human Biomolecular Research Institute (HBRI).
La Jolla High parents are also welcome to attend the career fair.
