La Jolla High foundation planning ‘Taste'-ful event

BY JACKIE HELM

Another year has passed, and the outstanding students who made up the class of 2009 have graduated and are now attending the finest colleges and universities in the country and abroad. They are a tribute, as are their predecessors, to the highly professional and talented faculty, staff and administration of La Jolla High School.

La Jolla High School is, and has historically been, one of the premier high schools in the country. However, its success, and all-around excellence, is being threatened every year by budget cuts, created by a virtually unprecedented economic crisis. This has adversely affected almost everyone in the country, including La Jolla High School students, parents, alumni and community supporters.

Last year alone, the Foundation of La Jolla High School contributed in excess of $600,000 to subsidize counseling support, teachers, teacher station technology, new audio/visual equipment for the auditorium, athletic equipment and uniforms, campus maintenance and improvements.

Through contributions and participation in our fundraising events, the foundation was able to meet those needs, and on behalf of the students and faculty, we thank those of you who have contributed very much.

Our first major fundraising event of 2009, Taste of La Jolla, chaired by Christina Andrews, will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 that evening … but don’t wait to buy tickets to this continually sold-out event! Christina and crew have over 25 of La Jolla’s premier restaurants lined up as community supporters for La Jolla High School.

Tickets can be purchased in the LJ High School office. For questions, e-mail chrisandrews@san.rr.com.
