Burglary (second degree), 7500 block Girard Ave., 2 p.m. (Bottle of alcohol shoplifted, arrest made.)
Commercial burglary, 1100 block Prospect Street, 2:15 p.m. (Theft of approximately $1,500 worth of construction tools from La Valencia Hotel’s lower-level restaurant space, which is currently undergoing a renovation.)
Grand theft, 8300 block Camino Del Oro, 4 p.m. (Theft of personal backpack from woman on the beach watching her son’s surfing lesson; woman placed backpack against a wall and when the lesson was over, the backpack was gone. Approximate $1200 loss includes a cell phone and a pair of Nike eyeglasses.)

Residential burglary, 1600 block Bahia Vista Way, 6:55 a.m.

Vehicle break-in/theft, 8800 block Villa La Jolla Drive, 1:30 a.m.
Commercial burglary, 1300 block Coast Walk, 5:53 a.m. (Police called to Sunny Jim’s Cave Store after an alarm sounded. When officers arrived they discovered a window-smash burglary in which the front glass door window was broken out. The loss was a painting valued at $20,000. A suspect was identified through surveillance video and Northern Division officers and detectives worked throughout the day and night to locate and recover the painting. No arrests have been made, though San Diego Police are considering requesting a burglary charge against the 63-year-old suspect.)
