La Jolla Country Day girls in regional basketball semifinal on Saturday

La Jolla Country Day School’s girls basketball team will face Bishop Montgomery at 7 p.m. Saturday night on the Torreys’ home court in the CIF regional semifinals.

A victory would put them in the Southern Californaia finals on Mrach 20 against the winner of the St. Joseph-Harvard/Westlake game, also being played on Saturday.

Their 71-58 victory on Thursdsay over Serra of Glendale makes them the last remaining La Jolla team in the playoffs in any sport. Had The Bishop’s School girls won their second round game on Thursday, the two local teams would have faced off again as they did in the San Diego Section finals. Instead, a 69-65 loss to Bishop Montgomery bumped them from the playoffs.

Earlier this week, Bishop’s boys soccer team lost 3-0 to Salesian of Los Angeles, taking them out of championship contention.
