For at least six high school athletes from La Jolla, Nov. 15 represented a significant step in their sports careers.

Three athletes from Bishop’s, two from La Jolla High and one from La Jolla Country Day committed to continue their athletic careers in college.

Bishop’s basketball player Elaine White signed a national letter of intent to play at UCSD, and teammate Briana Martinez signed with Cal State Fullerton. Ina Kamenova, a volleyball player for the Knights, committed to Northeastern.

Country Day basketball star Ariana Elegado signed with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

La Jolla High volleyball player Haley Cameron signed a letter of intent with Texas, and classmate Kate Woods, a water polo standout, agreed to play at Brown, which does not offer scholarships.

The official period for signing national letters of intent began on Nov. 15 for all sports except football, soccer, boys’ water polo and field hockey.
