Kudos to holiday decoration supporters

As we near the end of the holiday season, I wanted to once again thank the generous donors that made the holiday sign and street light decorations possible this year. It was a nice tradition to continue, even if there were a few hiccups along the way.

I also want to thank Egon Kafka and his team of volunteers who powered up the decorations in the Village and to the many merchants who generously donated the electricity to light up the shooting stars. The loss of institutional knowledge on how to make those connections slowed us down and it took us nearly the entire month to complete.

Thanks once again go out to Hotel La Jolla who once again provided the electricity for the Season’s Greeting sign on the bridge. And it was great to see merchants and landlords in the Village, the Shores and in Bird Rock, who supplemented the decorations with their own holiday lighting.

The extra focus on the decorations made us realize that they are showing their age. The problems on Torrey Pines Road, for example, are due to aging public street light infrastructure as well as decorations with old technology that cannot be repaired.

Hopefully we will learn from this season’s experience. We already have a solution ready to go for most of the Village, but the Torrey Pines Road decorations will require creativity and more funding.

Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed the decorations this season. I know I did.
