With Larry King as Master of Ceremonies again, this year’s Kids Korps USA gala was a stunning success. King (host of CNN’s “Larry King Live” and the man TIME magazine dubbed “master of the mike”) has been a long-time supporter of this San Diego-based organization. In fact, the king of talk has served as chair of its National Leadership Circle for the past seven years.
The organization honored King’s 50 years in broadcasting with a short video.
“I’m as shocked as most of you here that I did it,” King quipped.
The fund raiser took its theme from “An Era of Elegance,” and with the newly-renovated US Grant Hotel as the backdrop, the event lived up to its name in every way. Even the entertainment harked back to the big band era of the 1940s. Suzanne Somers showed off her singing talent at the big bash, chaired by Collette and Bob Stefanko. La Jolla’s own Barbara Enberg was on the gala committee, and the La Jolla Spa MD was a Silver Sponsor of this year’s affair.
The evening began with cocktails and a silent auction, followed by dinner, dancing, and a live auction. Among the local crowd in attendance were Sally and John Thornton, Dianne and Mitch Goldman, Jeff and Ventura Hallman, Michael Deery and Danielle Susalla, Dolly and Victor Woo, Ellen Stiefler and Rand Pipp.
