Kevin Johnson, longtime sales associate at Bowers Jewelers, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 18 at Scripps Green Hospital. He was 52.

Born in Crookton, Minn., Johnson came to San Diego in 1986 after earning his master’s degree in human resources at the University of Minnesota. In the early ‘90s he began working at Bowers Jewelers on Girard Avenue, where he would help La Jollans with their finer needs for the next 17 years.

Johnson was known as a helpful guy in general, whether with a customer or someone else.

As partner and colleague at Bowers, Chris Janke, put it: “He was the kind of guy that would take the time for you.”

Johnson is survived by his parents, Roger and Clarette Johnson of Alexandria, Minn, his sisters Deb Dressen and Joey Devitt, his brother Gary Johnson, his family at Bowers and his partner of 25 years Chris Janke.

Bowers has memory books for family and friends to sign at the store.
