Kellogg Park friends still shy of goal for playground

Friends of the Kellogg Park Playground are making their final push to raise the money needed to replace the play equipment at the La Jolla Shores Park.

Under an agreement with the city council, the group will retain control of the design, timeline and vendor for the project if they can raise $150,000 by Nov. 4. At this point, they are $31,000 short of that goal, said Mary Coakley, one of those involved in the project.

In May, city workers removed the play structures because its deteriorating condition made it unsafe, a parks spokesman said.

Anyone donating $250 or more will be recognized on a plaque to be placed at the park.

Donations should be made out to the La Jolla Town Council, with KP Playground on the memo line. They can be sent to Friends of the Kellogg Park Playground, Attn: Torey Gulley, P.O. Box 1232, La Jolla 92038. Gulley can be reached at (858) 459-3084.
