Kayak plan release delayed
The city has delayed release of a request for proposal for La Jolla Shores kayak operators who wish to apply for eligibility in a lottery-like system requiring them to select time slots for launch times during summer weekends.
“The timeline for releasing the RFP has been pushed out a little bit to the beginning of October or mid-October,” said April McCusker of the city’s Real Estate Assets Department. “We’re working hard trying to vet some of the different ideas that have come in from operators and the public.”
City officials told kayak operators on Aug. 5 they would need to submit a formal application detailing their business plans and operating needs to be eligible for the kayak lottery to be held before the 2009 summer tourist season.
Lifeguard Lt. Rick Wurts said operators would choose time slots between 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays between mid-June and Labor Day in a lottery.
