Just what is the La Jolla Shores Association?

BY JIM HEATON

Thanks to this series of articles, the wonderful efforts everyone has put forth in Kellogg Park and the article last week in the La Jolla Light, I have increasingly been asked who are the members of the LJSA and how can I become a member? The answer is almost simple: anyone who is a resident, property owner, business owner or business operator within the boundaries of La Jolla Shores is automatically a member of the organization.

What might surprise you are the boundaries that define the La Jolla Shores district. If you live within the following borders, congratulations, you are automatically a member of the “Shores.” The boundaries of the “Shores” are as follows: starting with the beautiful Pacific to the west, Scripps Institute of Oceanography/UCSD/La Jolla Village Drive to the north, east to Gilman Drive and down to the intersection of the 5 and the La Jolla Parkway, then finally south and southwest along the La Jolla Parkway to the northern boundary of Soledad Park to the intersection of Via Capri and La Jolla Scenic South and upper Hillside Drive, then down to the intersection of Soledad Avenue and west along Sierra Mar to Torrey Pines Road to Princess Drive.

To vote in our upcoming elections or to run for a seat on the board all a member needs to do is register with your name and address of your home or business at LJSA@san.rr.com. The LJSA by our bylaws does not actively raise funds, but we do accept annual donations of $25 to help defray the annual costs

La Jolla Shores is one of the most unique communities in Southern Californian. If you qualify for membership and therefore a position on the board, I urge you to get involved to protect and lead the direction of our community. Each year, for over 35 years, the association has done wonderful things to preserve, protect and drive the future of our community. You now have the opportunity to be a part of creating the next chapter of our community.

Please get involved and register at LJSA@san.rr.com.
