Jones leaves Riford Center

Ron Jones, hired in October as executive director of The Riford Center, has stepped down from his post.

“After already having served on the Riford board of directors for two years, being given the keys to the Riford Center by the executive committee was a wonderful opportunity for me to affect real change to an already storied community asset,” Jones said Monday.

Glen Rasmussen, newly elected board chairman, said Monday that “Ron has been a board member at Riford for a long time, and when the prior executive director left, he kindly stepped in on an interim basis and fulfilled interim activities. He was supposed to last three months, and he gave it six months.”

The center released a statement saying local volunteers Davida Huchel and Rebecca Hartford are managing the Riford since Jones returned to his primary career focus as an entertainer and DJ earlier this month.

Rasmussen said a search is under way to find a permanent Riford executive.

Jones said he and associate Jean Sachs, who left the center this week, had accomplished their goals to “tighten up the center’s administrative systems and reorient La Jolla’s perception in preparation of its complete transformation from that of a senior center to La Jolla’s only adult community center.”
