The third annual Fall Fest sponsored by La Jolla Shores merchants will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday along Avenida de la Playa.

The centerpiece of the Halloween-themed, family-oriented event is a free children’s costume parade.

“It’s a family day and people can come after church or whatever,” noted Terry Winn-Kraszewski, a La Jolla Shores Merchant District boardmember. “We’ll have facepainting and clowns, a jumpee house and little samplings of restaurants as well as a raffle giveaway from all the local merchants.”

Festivities will include live music by three local musicians, Hullabaloo band for kids, the Blonde Brothers and folk-oriented Molly Jenson.

The La Jolla Shores Merchants Microdistrict sponsors the event, which raises funds in part for Friends of La Jolla Shores efforts to further clean up and beautify Avenida de la Playa. Tickets are $5 in advance, $10 the day of the event and can be purchased in advance at Surf Diva, Ocean Girl, Hike Bike Kayak, La Jolla Kayak and Rusty Surfboards La Jolla.

Admission entitles participants to “passports” redeemable for goodies at participating local shops including Ocean Girl, Rusty Surfboards La Jolla, Yogurt Escape, Osteria Romantica and the Cheese Shop.

No alcohol will be allowed on the street during the event.

Event volunteers are needed before, during and after the fall fest for clean up. Those interested should contact Noelle Wojdowski at (619) 840-3482 or e-mail
