Rumors of the demise of Jane’s Fabrique at 7547 Girard Ave. in La Jolla’s downtown Village are premature.
Jane Christensen, owner of Jane’s Fabrique, which has been at the same location for 42 years, said she has gotten several calls from people who mistook her shop for La Jolla Fiber Arts, which shut down due to the recessionary economy.
A story in the 1/1 edition of the Light detailed the closing of the other store at 7644 Girard Ave., noting that the owner plans to have a Web presence soon.
Chrisensen, who noted that her business sells unfinished fabrics, silks, wools and the like, whereas La Jolla Fiber Arts sold finished textile products “We used to send people over there all the time,” said she added.
Jane’s Fabrique also sells accessories and has departments for buttons and ribbons.
Also offered at Jane’s Fabrique are four-student, four-session, 2 ½-hour classes sewing classes.
The store is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
