Local politicians and business owners, along with dance teams, the YMCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and classic cars advanced the parade route with little elves-for-a-day running alongside tossing candy canes to the crowd.
Will it or won’t it rain? That was the question on everyone’s mind before the start of 56th annual La Jolla Christmas Parade. As it turned out, Mother Nature was very kind to the estimated 25,000 spectators and 3,000 participants that day. The event kicked off with the flyover of vintage biplanes that awed the crowd settling in along Girard and Prospect streets.
Parade organizer Ann Kerr-Bache said, “It was the biggest and best-attended parade ever! There were 30 vintage vehicles, 13 floats, 12 bands, 30 miscellaneous vehicles, 30 equestrian groups and an incredible horse-drawn wagon that is brought out only once every 12 years — in the Year of the Horse.”
Following the parade, more merriment continued at the Holiday Festival held at the La Jolla Recreation Center.—
