Hyatt takes over Aviara Resort in Carlsbad

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts took over management Monday of the Aviara Resort in Carlsbad from Four Seasons Hotels.

The resort reopened Monday as the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, becoming one of the 25 luxury Park Hyatt properties the hotel chain operates worldwide.

“We are thrilled to be managing one of California’s most beautiful resorts,” said Chuck Floyd, chief operating officer for Hyatt Hotels Corp. in North America. “Park Hyatt Aviara Resort will be a wonderful addition to our luxury Park Hyatt portfolio and Hyatt Resort properties worldwide.”

The change in management comes in the wake of a dispute between BRCP HEF Hotel Tenant LLC, the owners of the resort, and Four Seasons Hotels Limited.

BRCP alleged financial mismanagement of the Aviara Resort, a charge Four Seasons disputed.

Ultimately, the matter ended up before an arbitration panel which found that Four Seasons did not breach its management agreement or its fiduciary duties to BRCP, but determined the two companies should part ways.
