Doris A. Howell, M.D., founder of the Howell Foundation for Women’s Health Research, will present the next lecture in the foundation’s ongoing series at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. May 28.
She will discuss “Advances in Palliative Care” at the event, which will be held at the La Jolla Country Club.
Howell, an internationally recognized expert in pediatrics and hospice care, is a founding member of San Diego Hospice and Director Emerita since 1989. She will explain how targeted attention to pain and symptom control, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual suffering, referred to as “palliative care” can bring relief and comfort to all patients and will greatly enhance the strained patient/doctor relationship.
Dr. Eric Topol, chief academic officer for Scripps Health, kicked off the series in February. Additional lectures are set for August and October.
