Honoring Roger Revelle
The official opening of the new Robert Paine Scripps Forum for Science, Society and the Environment (nicknamed the “Scripps Seaside Forum”) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography will be celebrated March 5-7 as part of a tribute to Roger Revelle, who would have turned 100 on March 7. Revelle was the director of the institution and founder of UCSD.
Sitting south of Scripps Pier, the center includes classroom and meeting spaces at the south entrance to the campus. Several invitation-only events honoring Revelle are planned, including a presentation of the first Roger Revelle Prize at Scripps to former Vice President Al Gore. The public is invited to join the festivities at Birch Aquarium on March 7.
