Happy days here for Class of ’10 at Bishop’s, Country Day
The Classes of 2010 at The Bishop’s School and La Jolla Country Day School said their good-byes to their schools during commencement ceremonies on Friday.
At Bishop’s, 131 seniors were on hand for the event. They’ll be heading off to 78 different institutions across the U.S. and abroad. Across town later in the day, the 103 seniors of the Country Day graduating class held their commencement ceremony.
Speakers were Naomi Strauss, senior class chair; Hillary Halter, senior class president, and Alex Na, Associated Student Body Council president.
Among those honored at the event was Aaron Schild, who was awarded the Harvard Cup for having the highest grade point average in the class of 2010 — something he didn’t know until Friday afternoon. He also received the Loyalty Cup, given to the studetn “exemplifying the lofty ideals” of the school.
Among the long list of honorees were Anafrancesca Comunale, who won the Robert Wolterstorf Community Service Award and Justin Peabody and Samantha Peck took home Roundtable Scholar/Athlete Awards.
(See below for a full list of honors earned by the class.)
There were surprises at Country Day as well. Daniel Sam Stein learned he had won the
Trustee Award for the highest GPA while his classmates Sujin Park and Micah O’Brien Siegel took home the Head of School Award for the second highest GPA.
Faculty Prize for the young man and young woman for best demonstrating the ideas and spirit of La Jolla Country Day through character, arts, athletics and scholarship goes to is Dennis Michael Roth and Alexandra Goulart Castillejos.
The student speaker, chosen by his peers, was Taylor Golia, and Avneet Pujji gave the invocation. The faculty speaker was Assistant Head of School Sarah Bakhiet and Upper School English Teacher Gary Peritz gave the invocation.
