, gynecomastia affects between 40-60% of the male population, and is far more prevalent than many people realize. While a large number of gynecomastia cases are prompted by unknown causes, some factors – including steroids, medications containing estrogen, cancer, reduced liver function and excessive use of alcohol and marijuana – have been linked to male breast enlargement. Regardless of the source, gynecomastia can be safely and effectively treated using plastic surgery techniques. However, it is critical for all prospective patients to consult a board certified plastic surgeon before electing to undergo surgery.

Male breast reduction: surgical procedures

Plastic surgeons perform male breast reduction surgery through either liposuction or the removal of excess glandular tissue, and both procedures are safe for most healthy male plastic surgery patients.
