GreenSource Corp. and the Green Chamber of San Diego County have teamed to bring the first in a series of sustainability-promoting events to the Salk Institute in La Jolla from 5 to 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 16.

“Invest Green: Sowing the Seeds of a New Economy” will feature Ilya Fushman, an associate at Khosla Ventures, as keynote speaker. The $3 billion Silicon Valley venture capital firm invests in the green companies of the future.

The program will also spotlight local innovators, investors and leaders in the fast-growing sector of sustainability.

The program has been organized for anyone who wants to accelerate progress in developing a green economy in the region.

“San Diego is a beautiful city with many amenities and resources. Sustainability here in terms of industry players is widespread, but the principle is too far from fully realized,” said Tad Simmons, CEO at San Diego-based GreenSource Corp., which is co-hosting this important gathering along with the San Diego Green Chamber. “To develop this industry is to develop San Diego in a wise and inspiring direction.”

Simmons added, “It’s going to be a relaxing and informative evening with locally-grown organic food and wine, and plenty of time for inspiring conversation.”

Presenters will focus on a variety of sustainable issues, ranging from water and energy resources to agriculture and transportation.

The Salk Institute is at 10010 North Torrey Pines Road, in La Jolla.

Cost is $75, $20 for students, $65 per person for parties of two or more. Early registration is encouraged. The cost is $100 at the door.
