Grads heading around the world for college
Graduates from La Jolla’s high schools are getting ready to head for colleges near and far.
From La Jolla High School, The Bishop’s School and La Jolla Country Day, the 2008 grads will be traveling to more than 100 different colleges and universities.
The list includes local schools - UCSD, San Diego State, the University of San Diego, the Art Institute, Cal State San Marcos, Point Loma Nazarene and Mesa and Grossmont colleges.
Farther away, the Ivy Leagues will be the freshman home for nine area students, while Stanford gets 10 and USC has attracted 18 La Jollans.
The list also reaches beyond the U.S. borders to places like the Trinity College in Dublin, the University of Monaco, Spain’s Alicante University and the University of Madrid, McGill University in Canada. Britain will be home to two local students who are heading for Oxford University and King’s College of London. One will attend Les Roches, the Swiss Hotel Association’s School of Hotel Management.
Around the state
There’s also the usual contingent heading for UC campuses outside of San Diego, where more than 85 area grads are headed, and for California State Universities at Humboldt, San Jose, Long Beach, Chico, San Francisco and Sonoma. Others are heading for Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara City College.Private California colleges like Chapman, Pacific Union, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Santa Clara, Saint Âmary’s, Occidental, Redlands, Pitzer, University of the Pacific, and Whittier and the University of San Francisco will be home to a large contingent of locals as well.
