Friends turn out to remember slain surfer

Friends and family of Emery Kauanaui gathered at WindanSea Beach on Monday to honor the surfer who died on May 24, 2007, after a fight outside his home that was sparked by a drink-spilling incident at a nearby bar. Those attending the afternoon event shared stories, music and a “wacky” surf contest, and a raffle to raise money to provide surfboards for children who can’t afford them.
