Four Camp Pendleton Marines died in combat this week

Four Marines based at Camp Pendleton died in combat this week in Afghanistan, military officials said Tuesday.

Cpl. Gregory M.W. Fleury, 23, Capt. Eric Jones, 29, Capt. David Mitchell, 30, and Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen, 29 died Monday in Helmand province, according to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing public’s affairs office.

Fleury, Jones and Van De Giesen were assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Pendleton.

Mitchell was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Pendleton.

Fleury hailed from Anchorage, Alaska, Jones from Westchester, N.Y., Mitchell from Loveland, Ohio, and Van De Giesen from North Attleboro, Mass.
